about the programme
The British artist Julyen Hamilton excels in solo performances where he combines dance with readings of his own poetry. He is an innovative improviser who interacts with his audience and relates text to bodies in motion. In each performance he creates a new interplay with words and movements, compelling and full of beauty, absurd and humorous. Julyen Hamilton often chooses his words because of their sounds. The musicians from the New European Ensemble perform chamber music by the American composer and environmental activist John Luther Adams. Nature is the major source of inspiration for his work, in which he searches for beauty and inner silence.
New European Ensemble is supported by Fonds Podiumkunsten (from 2017) and the city of The Hague
