For this special morning concert in Leiden, the New European Ensemble makes an combination of the widely known, and a few very few heard musical pearls from more recent times. Brahms' Clarinet quintet is heard next to Jean Francaix’s, composed in 1977. From Germany and France the Ensemble turns to the UK. Herbert Howells' Rhapsodic Quintet is played next to his countryman's An Invention on Solitude. Three countries; two centuries; five instruments.

Howell - Rhapsodic Quintet op. 31

Francaix - Clarinet quintet

Turnage - An invention on solitude

Brahms - Clarinet quintet in b op. 115
